Due to the severe damage caused by Typhoon Opong, and at the request of Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor, the 12th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), led by Vice Governor Antonio S. Perez, Jr., has passed and approved the Provincial Resolution No. 7938-2025, declaring a State of Calamity in the province of Oriental Mindoro on 29 September at the Batasang Panlalawigan.

According to Provincial Administrator Atty. Earl Ligorio R. Turano II, based on the latest report from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), a total of 213,234 individuals representing 23% of the province’s total population have been directly affected, 5,737 houses were damaged, while infrastructure damages reached up to Php 145.5 million and agricultural losses exceeded Php 895 million.

In Gov. Bonz’s letter to the SP, he stated that the declaration is a necessary step to immediately address the needs of the affected communities in Oriental Mindoro, as it will empower local governments to promptly use the calamity fund, accelerate relief operations, request of assistance from the National Government, and implement a price freeze on basic commodities to prevent exploitation.

He added that the declaration of the State of Calamity is a crucial document that allows local governments to utilize their Quick Response Fund, which will be allocated for urgent needs of citizens affected by the recent calamity.

In line with this declaration was a resolution revoking the previous State of Calamity declaration last 25 July due to the combined impact of southwest monsoon strengthened by Tropical Depression Dante and Emong in the province.
