Residents from the Municipality of Baco gathered in front of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) to personally express their collective call for the continuation of the river restoration project in their town.
Led by Mayor Allan Roldan, Vice Mayor Eric Castillo, Sangguniang Bayan Members, and representatives from various sectors, the residents from different barangays of Baco endured the intense heat just to convey their appeal on 8 September before the member of SP.
Bacoeños insisted for the exemption of their town to the temporary suspension of dredging activities in Oriental Mindoro, as they believe this is a viable solution to their long-standing problem of severe flooding that happens every year.
According to Mayor Roldan, if this project will not proceed immediately, their people will continue to suffer in times of calamities.
He further added that majority of the citizens of Baco support this project seeing the clear benefits it will provide to protect their livelihood, ensure their safety, and guarantee hope for their future.
These reasons pushed them to personally request to the Provincial Government after learning about the temporary suspension issued by Governor Humerlito “Bonz†A. Dolor on dredging across the province of Oriental Mindoro for further study in response to the concerns of the citizens regarding the project.
In line with this, the 12th SP passed the “Resolution Supporting the Call Of The People of Baco, Represented By Municipal Mayor Allan Roldan, And The Sangguniang Bayan Headed By Vice Mayor Eric Castillo, Together With Barangay Officials And Representatives In Different Sectors In Their Appeal To Governor Bonz Dolor To Review, Assess, And Re-evaluate The Suspension Of The Notice to Proceed (NTP) Of The River Restoration Program For The Rivers In the Municipality Of Baco, Subject To Compliance With All Existing Laws, Rules And Regulations.†during the 10th Regular Session on said date.
Mayor Roldan expressed his heartfelt gratitude and hopes that through this initiative, the river restoration project in their town will finally proceed.
