Governor Humerlito “Bonz” A. Dolor and Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) MIMAROPA Regional Director Gerald Pacanan led the inspection of a recently damaged flood control project due to southwest monsoon in Barangay San Isidro, Bongabong.
Despite its construction just less than a year ago, around 380 meters are estimated to have been damaged in the project, and considered as one of nine flood control projects in Oriental Mindoro destroyed due to flooding in recent months.
According to RD Pacanan, approximately Php 39 Billion has been allocated by their agency for the construction of flood control projects throughout the province from 2023 to 2025.
Meanwhile, Governor Dolor stated that he requested the Commission on Audit (COA) to conduct a special audit to determine the real reason behind its failure.
He further added that the construction materials and their design will also undergo a thorough study and analysis for the verification of its compliance with the set standards.
RD Pacanan assured Governor Dolor of his willingness to cooperate in conducting a thorough and serious investigation, along with any other necessary measures.
According to the Governor, he will not stop until the contractors or anyone involved in the construction of the alleged substandard infra-projects are held accountable if negligence or non-compliance with the prescribed standards is proven.
Gov. Dolor emphasized that this is not only a fight for the people of Mindoro, but a fight for the entire nation that pays proper taxes.
